Information/Write-up
Wayne Vold has gained special recognition throughout North America as a Rodeo Cowboy Singer, often spoken about alongside the late Chris LeDoux for his special talents. In the case of Wayne Vold, the Alberta born and bred singer/songwriter has also become famed as a North American Saddle Bronc Champion (1965 and 1966), and the Producer of Rodeo events in Canada and the USA, as well as a stock contractor, raising champion horses for Rodeo events, etc.
Musically, Wayne Vold has the distinction of being the first artist to release an album on the Edmonton-based Royalty Records label, the home base for many of Canada's top recording acts for the past four decades. Vold's album, "Country Dreams" (Royalty R2000-1) was produced by the label's chief architect, R. Harlan Smith, and featured two of Smith's compositions, including the song "Loving You, Losing You which was released as a single, b/w the Smith-penned tune "Momma's Voice".
Prior to his Royalty Records recordings, Wayne Vold released a pair of singles in 1975 on the Westmount label, including "She Started Drinking & Singing Old Love Songs", a song written by Wayne Vold b/w the Ian Tyson-penned "Texas" (Westmount 457512). The follow-up single, "We May Never Pass This Way Again" (Westmount 7501), another original tune written by Vold, also became his sole entry on Canadian country charts, peaking at #40 on the RPM Charts in 1975. Vold also released the single "Calgary Stampede Star" b/w "Point Of No Return" on the Music by VI label in 1976.
Wayne Vold now devotes his time to his Rodeo and Stock Contracting services. He is often called upon to sing the Canadian National anthem at Rodeo Events in Canada and the USA, most notably at the 2011 National Finals Rodeo staged in Las Vegas, where he shared the anthem duties with Nashville star Tanya Tucker.
