Insight

The Teen Beats were a four-piece instrumental guitar group from Montréal featuring Louis Hebert on lead guitar, Stan Gornicki on rhythm guitar, Del Nobile on bass guitar and Frank Morahan on drums. Their only album, Guitar Boogie, was released by London Records of Canada in 1964.

The album captures the instrumental guitar music circulating among young Canadian bands in the early 1960s, with material drawn from Chet Atkins, Arthur Smith, The Fireballs, The String-A-Longs and The Islanders. The Shadows were an especially strong influence: ‘1861’, ‘Perfidia’ and ‘South of the Border’ had all appeared together on their 1962 album Out of the Shadows.

‘Guitar Boogie’ was later revived on the Early Canadian Rockers series.
