Information/Write-up
Simone and Nora were a Canadian sister country-folk vocal duo active in the early 1970s. Their only known single, “Whiskey Runner” b/w “Keep Lookin’ Round,” was released in May 1971 on AME Records, a label associated with producer Al Rain and Art Snider. Both songs were written and produced by Rain and recorded at Sound Canada Recording Centre in Toronto, with manufacturing handled by Quality Records Limited. Contemporary RPM coverage described the single as stylistically difficult to categorize, noting its potential appeal to middle-of-the-road programmers while also attracting interest from country radio due to its subject matter. The record received national trade exposure and charted briefly in RPM’s country listings. By 1972, Simone and Nora were identified in RPM as Simone and Nora Hart, and by the mid-1970s both sisters appeared as performers on GRT’s Country Gold series. The project documented them recording both as a duo and individually: the sisters contributed a joint performance of “Snowbird” on Country Gold, and returned as a duo on Country Gold Vol. 2 (24 Current Hits), where they collectively performed four tracks.
