About This Title

In common with the birth of all great orchestras, the labour pains of the Sable Island Symphony were perhaps too much to bear. When oil was found on Sable Island some years ago — and suddenly visions of Arabian-type wealth came floating through the fog — there was intense pressure and commitment to culture the Department of Transport employees and their families who lived on the island. Hence the Sable Island Symphony, for these four “almost classical” selections, the best “talent” descended and was nurtured in its ranks. Gambling on future increases in oil and gas prices made it easier. David Woods was the conductor, Dave Ruck composed and orchestrated the music and David Gee did an oboe and English horn. While not deviating from the original classic themes, the orchestration here will bring the music into a ‘today’ sound.

Produced in Halifax by Stu Stewart
