Information/Write-up
Young & Restless had Prism putting all of their ingenuity and talent into a couple of songs while disregarding the rest of the album, a trait that was prevalent on their first couple of releases. The band failed to carry the success of 1979's Armageddon into a new decade, and for the first time in Prism's career, they were unable to put a song on the charts in their home country. At least Y&R's only two bright spots are easy to admire, especially the title track's explosive chorus, which is geared to reel in lovers of AOR. "American Music" is the band's attempt at boosting sales south of the border, but it failed to do so despite its fiery rock & roll flair. Beyond these tracks, Prism's efforts sound trite and lifeless, with tracks like "Acid Rain," "Visitor," and "Runnin' for Cover" sounding hurried and abandoned. The solid instrumental sound and confident songwriting that they produced on their last recording have somehow disappeared, and even John Hall's synthesizers can't muster any redemption amongst the album's filler. Young & Restless showed signs of the band declining in all aspects, which was later confirmed on Prism's future releases.
