Information/Write-up
Being born into a family with plenty of musical background was a lucky break for KEITH POTTS. His father, John Potts from Arkansas, had been a top old-time fiddler, and his mother was from Texas. Both had good singing voices. Keith was born May 28, 1925, in the farming village of Millet, Southern Alberta. He was one of ten sons and daughters. As he matured, Keith learned to absorb music from his brothers and sisters. The family moved to Munsom, Alberta and later to Mossleigh and eventually to Nanton where Keith resided for years.
As a boy of sixteen, Keith started with a tent show and shortly afterward, he and his brothers Ken and Vern formed a trio that performed to many towns. Keith also played drums for Rocky Clackum's old-time country dance band for many years.
In 1948 Keith, Ken, and Vern formed a trio called the Keynotes. The group appeared regularly on the Dinner Bell Show over Radio Station CFCN in Calgary for over a year.
Keith wrote his first song at the age of 18 and has written over 100 songs, many of which were inspired by his family. Keith is the proud father of six children and today lives on Vancouver Island.
Keith now felt he needed a change, and along with his wife Gay, and their three little girls, Georgia Ann (age 10), Gaye (age 8), and four-year-old Dolly, they moved west to the Coast and into new musical experiences.
His new surroundings and music since he moved to the Island in 1954 have brought on new inspiration, and his writing flourished. Among his top songs, POT OF GOLD, received a BMI Award in 1965. Another of Keith’s top tunes, BLUE DAY, also gained recognition and is one of Keith’s personal favorites.
Keith has performed with many top names including Patsy Montana, Vic Siebert, and Don Messer, to name a few. Many of his children have followed in his footsteps and are also active in the music industry.
At the time of this writing, Georgia Ann is 15 and a strong singer and dancer, while little Gaye sings enthusiastically along with her family. Dolly, the youngest, is already showing signs of becoming a great little singer.
Keith’s wife Gay has sung with Keith and Gay and the girls have performed at schools, concerts, radio shows, and on television in British Columbia and Alberta. Gay’s beautiful harmony and gentle voice continue to enhance the Potts’ Family sound.
Don’t miss this fine album of Keith’s original compositions!
