Released in 1969, "South Down Road" b/w "Numbers" was The Paupers’ final single. By this point, founding members Denny Gerrard and Skip Prokop had left the group, and the lineup had shifted significantly. The single, drawn from their second album Ellis Island, captures the band’s later sound, blending complex arrangements with a more polished, progressive approach. Despite strong production and a push for radio airplay, the record failed to chart significantly and marked the effective end of The Paupers' recording career.
