Information/Write-up

Peter Kelch was part of the fledgling Victoria, British Columbia music scene back in the early 1960's along with The Pharaohs, Bobby Faulds, The Strangers, The Mauaders and a handful of others. Very few records were ever cut by any of these Victoria groups, but there were some, and all are mega-rare today and highly sought after by collectors of early Canadian Pacific Northwest Rock & roll music.

Peter Kelch recorded two singles on his own private Terra Record label; The scorching garage/rockabilly killer Silly Girl b/w Cry On My Shoulder and also River Of Tears, flip side not known.

Peter Kelch enlisted the help of Victoria instrumental rock band The Pharaohs who released two killer instrumental 45's of their own during the early 1960's which were The Friendly Martian (written by Peter Kelch) b/w Unknown Planet (written by Ed and Ron Attfield of The Pharaohs), released on Chattahoochee 660 in the U.S. and on Iona Records in Canada and also Green Werewolf which was released on Iona 1002.

The Pharaohs comprised of brothers Ed Attfield (lead guitar) and Ron Attfield (rhythm guitar, bass), Doug Brown (saxophone), Terry Budd (drums) and at various times also included Doug Casey (drums), Rich England (guitar, saxophone), Mike Kersey (keyboards) and Bernie Maggiora (keyboards).

Ron Attfield passed away in Victoria B.C. on Jan. 13, 2009, age 64.
Doug Brown, saxophonist, passed away on November 18, 2022 at the age of 78.

There were just two hundred copies of Silly Girl pressed. This copy came from a family member of Peter Kelch's who placed five unplayed copies for sale in a Victoria auction house a few years back and we recently aquired two copies from the collector who successfully bid on them at that time. He had subsequently traded one copy of Silly Girl to Ron Attfield of The Pharaohs for a copy of a Pharoahs single and he sold off two others a few years back and kept one for himself. This is one of the rarest of all Canadian singles and may never show up again in this fine condition. This is the last we have, and it is in beautiful mint minus condition on both sides. The last copy we recently sold was also a beautiful copy but had a couple of sleeve scuffs of the Cry On My Shoulder side, which this copy does not have. You will never find a better copy than this one which we now offer for your consideration.

Silly Girl written by Peter Kelch is a wild rockabilly killer with sizzling vocals from Peter Kelch whose everything-but-the-kitchen-sink vocal approach on this amazing recording does completely preclude any opportunity for subtlety, the sheet audaciousness of his soaring vocals works nicely with The Pharaohs excellent, solid-as-a-rock muscianship who somehow manage to keep up with Peter Kelch's rip-your-ears-off vocals with terrific drumming from Terry Budd, solid bass from Ron Attfield, and great lead guitar from Ed Attfield and The Pharaohs can also be heard in the background providing backing vocals!

Cry On My Shoulder also written by Peter Kelch is a mid-tempo teen love ballad with soaring vocals from Peter Kelch, terrific backing from The Pharaohs including strummed guitar, percolating drums and bass and nice keyboards from Mike kersey.
