About This Title

Rufus Guinchard was Born in Daniel's Harbour, Newfoundland, 1899. He began playing the fiddle at the age of eleven. Rufus, besides being a master fiddler, was an accordionist & composer. A few of the other "jobs" in his life-time were: fisherman, logger, trapper, seaman, labourer, warden and carpenter. He was a member in the mid 1970's of "The Breakwater Boys" and it was during this time that he cut his first record. He was appointed a member of THE ORDER OF CANADA in 1986. He recorded one more record before he passed from this world in 1990 at the age of Ninety-One years. His last release was issued posthumously. He travelled extensively and performed at folk festivals and events across Canada. He played at the Mariposa, Atlantic & Vancouver Festivals and at Expo 86. He also appeared in the U.S.A., England, Ireland, France, Japan (Expo 85, Tsukuba), and Australia (Expo 88, Brisbane). FABULOUS TUNES ! RUFUS' MOST FAMOUS COMPOSITION IS THE CENTENNIAL HIGHWAY REEL.
