Information/Write-up

McNab's Hornpipe began life as “Crossing the Minch” and was composed by Pipe Major Donald MacLeod (1917-1982). Winston's source of the name “MacNab's” is unknown but he used the title on this recording and it gained considerable fame when released in the early 1950s. Both titles are in use today.

Farmer's Daughter Reel is called Aberarder's Rant in the Skye Collection (1887). The name “Farmer's Daughter” first appeaed in The Seaforth Highlanders (1936) . Winston made these two unknown pipe tunes into one of the most popular fiddle medleys ever recorded.

Mrs. C. Sutherland Strathspey & Charles Sutherland Reel. Composed in 1933 by J. Murdoch Henderson (1902-1972). Winston recorded many Henderson tunes. Mr Sutherland was owner of the Goddard Stradivarius: http://www.cozio.com/Instrument.aspx?id=752

Winston made several recordings under his own Mac label. Mac became part of Rodeo and the records were reissued with Rodeo labels.
