Named after the Winston Churchill order to bomb Germany at the end of WWII, Directive 17 originally hailed from St.Catharines, Ontario in 1981. The trio of Wasyliw, Bradshaw and Siamro met Maize at Mohawk College in Hamilton in 1982 and he offered to fill the void where a singer was desperately needed. The band released its own independent EP in which made it to #37 on CSCR's Top LPs of 1984.
A mix of the upbeat melodic new wave pop, with Cure influences, vocals that sometimes make me think of Television too, for some reason, but with a commercial feel. The dark side Robert Smith inspired side is woven below the surface into the truly great melody. Great spiky shards of guitar, rolling melodic but often darker bass. Simply a brilliant six song EP.
Andy Maize (Skydiggers): vocals
Myron Wasyliw: drums
Craig Bradshaw: guitar
Bob Siamro: bass
