Terry Black a “Smash” on the Dick Clark Show.
“Canada may well take over as the next country to produce a successful new sound!” said Dick Clark at the ABC-TV Studios in Hollywood after listening to Terry Black, who had just literally “stopped the show” with his appearance on American Bandstand.
The Terry Black story is a teenager’s dream come true. During the fall of 1964, a Toronto record executive was in Vancouver discussing the record scene with Buddy Clyde, the M.C. of CHAN-TV’s Dance Party, and through the course of their conversations, Buddy mentioned that a young “regular” on Dance Party, Terry Black, was receiving fan mail by the carload from girl viewers. The record executive asked to meet Terry, and an exclusive record contract with ARC Records, Toronto, was immediately negotiated.
Terry’s first release Unless You Care became an immediate national hit, and as a direct result of the success of the first release, many other exciting things happened. Terry has been signed to a long-term Hollywood movie contract, and his personal appearances on live tour shows, both in Canada and the U.S., have been fantastically successful.
