Liner notes
With his first album, “Goin’ Places”, Barry Allen proved he was worthy of the title, ‘Canada’s Most Promising Male Vocalist’ (as he was voted by readers in a trade magazine poll last year). He had slowly built up a faithful fan following in his home town (Edmonton, Alberta) and other provinces with his early Capitol single releases.
The handsome blonde singer was leading up to a “smash hit”—and eventual honours as Canada’s Top Male Vocalist! When “Lovedrops” was released, it immediately shot to No. 1 position on the two Edmonton ‘Top 40’ radio stations. Many forecasters claimed it was expected for a singer to score in his own region—but, the fact that “Lovedrops” was a bona-fide hit was proven as it stayed in the No. 1 spot in Edmonton for over five weeks, and then started to gain recognition across the country.
In Toronto, Barry found himself a “Battle Winner” at the powerful CHUM station—the following week he had the fastest rising disc on the station’s hit parade! From Regina, Halifax, Montreal, Kingston and Vancouver, the reports flooded in—“Lovedrops” was a big, big hit! Soon every important station in the country was “on” the song—the rest is record history. Barry flew across Canada to appear on the top TV shows, at record hops and to be interviewed by the big-name announcers at radio stations. Meanwhile, “Lovedrops” started to show up on charts in the U.S.A., and another Canadian was on his way to deserved stardom!
The versatile Edmontonian is evidently “having a ball” on his second album. We hope you do too while listening to it!
