The map of Canada, like the map of most countries, is peppered with curious names. The names of towns and villages like Honeymoon Bay, Whitehorse, Cupids, Hearts Content, Moose Jaw, Penetanguishene, Flin Flon, Hearts Delight, Kapuskasing, Long Sault, Dildo, Trois-Rivières, and Tatamagouche. In this series, presented by the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation through it's International Service and pressed onto vinyl circa 1961-1963, we penetrate the reality behind some of these names and learn the stories and reasons for the names themselves...

Mining on Bell Island began in the summer of 1895.

Rose Castle, 1942. The Rose Castle, shown here in September 1942, was sunk two months later by German submarine U-518.

Scotia Pier after Torpedo Attack, 1942. Bell Island’s Scotia Pier was damaged in November 1942 following a torpedo attack from German submarine U-518.
