Biography:

A legend in the Francophone Canadian underground, Plume Latraverse (born Michel Latraverse, in Montreal, Quebec on May 11, 1946) was an artist, writer, singer, and multi-faceted performer whose career included around twenty albums, seventeen singles, and a number of books. He got his start as a rock musician in the sixties, and then switched to more of a counter-culture troubadour mode, eventually getting a momentum going that had him releasing nearly an album a year. He received many awards for his work, including the Prix International De La Jeune Chanson in 1980 in France and the Medaille Jacques-Blanchet in 1994. As of 2008, he remained a performer and continued to release albums.

Very few artists live their career effectively independent. This so-called indie rock is it in this self developed? In any case, the beginners who want to avoid the pitfalls of stardom would benefit from a closer look at the course and attitude of this author-songwriter who escapes modes and classification. Qualified turn rocker, singer, visionary (!), Bluesman ... along the tangent of inspiration, he is primarily a poet, for whom music is a privileged vehicle without its form of expression. Her attraction to the song dates back to the sixties while lugging his guitar a little everywhere, especially where Percé gives appointment bohemian some of the time. There he met other artists whose marginal Pierre Landry, a student on vacation who occasionally plays the flute or saxophone, the poet and Pierrot Léger. In the wake of the group born the Holy Trinity . This experience lasts until spring 1971 and it is only a few months later at Studio 6, what recorded the album " Triniterre "has the merit of providing access to a few songs the duo Feather Dr. Landry, without however, contain all the creative madness of the original trio. In spring 1972 the group dispersed for good pen and hit the road, not without going back from time to time to greet his friend to Casanous Light, the famous overground box frequented by cultural activists all bristles. He rubs the musicians of Jazz Free Quebec, pianist Charlie Barbeau, did some songs with Stephen Faulkner he gleefully nicknamed Blind Brown Sugar. All these companions will soon play an active role in future albums, starting with " Feather louse worthy "who was born in the fall of 1974. The disc appears on Deram label, in London, at a time when multinational companies are beginning to look at the so-called generation succession, overused term in the entertainment industry in Quebec. " Feather louse worthy "a little out of place in the musical landscape but is an iconoclast who lives feeling much of the urban youth, who did not at all taste or opportunity to take refuge in the countryside. Even out of context, the album remains a great vintage Quebec's new variety, one generation after the Expo, according to Osstidcho, the generation that is expressed on community radio stations and refuses wearing jacket tie. For variety there: the opening blues-rock-to-tavern "curtain" on realistic fable cappella "Leopold Gibouleau" through Latin rhythms ("Calvary" adaptation of South American "classic Volver, volver "" Bossa-motta "," Metropolis BBQ ") or unpretentious ballad" More words, "the spirit is plumesque camped in this vintage 33 rpm. 's song "Curtain" (and cognac-gnac ) does soon became a reference not only for fans of the hirsute character but for teens of all ages who live to the rhythm of the seventy years. The same goes for "Bobépine" found on the following album " The Dirty Old Show ", published a few months later. Again, full of old regulars are Casanous the game, grouped under the name of Cell 3. Musical diversity is even greater. Pen and his friends sail from blues to tango through a small way swing Django Reinhardt "green bed", a couple of rock 'n rolls the way fifties "Rock' n roll's big soft side", "Rat that Roll "and even an electro-rock cover of" Reel Hangman. " Plume is also one of the most prolific decades of 70 and 80 artists, regularly delivering one or two new albums each year while most artists and producers prefer more intervals of two, three or even five years between each issue. At this rate, we guess that his shows are far from monotonous and more like a vortex of pure delirium under the seal of continual renewal. Just the second LP is it appeared in stores a new album is created, a duet with Stephen Faulkner, entitled " Road Apple ". It also contains a lot of unofficial success because, despite their undeniable impact, songs Plume spend little waves, while slyly to establish the practice of radio formats. Whatever, its choruses spread like a weed and an important part of the beautiful youth of Quebec soon finds himself humming "Good manners" and his eye to blink Aznavour or the report of an approximate evening "Jonquière." if " Apple Road "may seem bare compared to the diversity of orchestrations of the first albums, what about the following? On his record live , recorded in Patriot, this mecca of Quebec song sixties found Plume alone with his guitar, the way of his fellow songwriters. Because what they say, the author-songwriter is more in the tradition of Tex Lector, sometimes a Brassens or some blues rockers as the U.S.. This does not prevent him to add his personal touch to a song like "Blueberry Hill". The rest of the set of " Black and White Feather "is divided between a bluesée, obvious approach in" The blues of human stupidity "or" Old Neg "more subtle in" Room for rent "and the songwriter style. In retrospect, one can even find an experience report to Quebec in the rhythmic poem "Sitting", a few moons before this practice is recognized as a new genre! Within two years, Plume Latraverse carved a place choice in the soundscape of Quebec, that the joyous challenge, too aware of the absurdity of existence to take seriously, but too awake to silence. This speaking, it's a bit of the forgotten baby boomers, those who do not have the chance to checkout these years of prosperity and comfort themselves by spending the evening sharing a box of 24. But the texts are those who know Plume highlight everything beyond our world that has no time to take a step back and deal with daily. Despite his colorful language, partly inspired by the Church past Quebec and if popular with young adults, the songwriter is not limited to an audience of unruly students. In 1977, during the Quebec City Summer Festival, he meets Willie Lamothe and George Langford in a very different version of The Three (the original group included Pierre Lalonde , Michel Louvain and Donald Lautrec ), leading to a regular crowd against waves of culture-traditional sing along anthem directory western French "When the sun says hello to the mountains." Contrasts of this kind, nib bears regularly and often takes the initiative in this direction. It is probably on this occasion as it adopts the song "Mile after mile" already directory Willie Lamothe, this pioneer of Quebec country. This is one of the few standards to remain in directory Plume. because the production rate Latraverse is so intense that it keeps its little known program songs, albeit confirmed success. With his double album " All Dressed Plume ", ends the cycle of the first songs accumulated since the time of the Holy Trinity" We, who cares "and Casanous" The real de la Casa ", passing by duets with brown sugar as "Not 'beautiful local" and "Catholic Cowboy" and souvenirs in "Gaspoésie" or "New Orleans". A turn begins with the albums " Plastic "and" Shipping from behind . " The observer of his time is even more critical with songs like "Cul bag of rock", "The less beautiful Blackbird" and "Don Quichiotte" that sound like sheets of a disillusioned generation. It borders on nostalgia in "Hi Trenet" and "O little corner restaurant" (very different from the song of the Million-Air ) and emphasizes the way the death of Elvis "Four years after ...". With the release of " Plastic Surgery "in 1979 and still " Metamorphosis I "in 1982, the break seemed final with the world of radio that can easily absorb such freedom of place, not to mention his musical eclecticism. Never mind, it is hard and the scene that the poet joined his flock. Pen y alternates intimate tours and shows like this arena tour with the band Offenbach , entitled " At the bottom of the process "in 1983. With nicknamed The Poor Fellow musicians, among which are the core of sustainable future guides: guitarist Jean-Claude Marsan and bassist Denis Masson, Feather continues to travel across Quebec and Canada. It also points to France, where his words and his accent perplexing, while amplifying the rustic appeal of the American cousin. In 1984, we find him in the middle of an almost autobiographical O Electric Rage , partly shot in Gaspé, under the leadership of Carl somewhat anarchic Brubacher. While continuing to deliver, year after year, its dozen new songs, he engages in other forms of writing, whether the story Vôgrador (still unpublished) or songs for the album and Offenbach solo Gerry Boulet in 1984. In 1987, he published his first novel, Tales dropper or a reflection of the country. Having always kept a careful control over his own recordings (Productions Production and Publishing Edition), it starts the CD reissue of his song catalog in 1989 with the first in a series entitled "albums of the past lour Plume Latraverse ". He began the year ninety with a CD full of unreleased tracks " Songs for all kinds of people "on the discs Dragon who also assumes the following" label Lour past ... ". He soon hit the road in the company of bassist Denis Masson, history of presenting his new songs. His second book of fiction, entitled No admission without a history, before another album of " new songs ". In 1994, during the Quebec City Summer Festival, he was awarded the Mirror of French songs: this is the first time that a reward is in Quebec. It was followed in December of the same year, Jacques-Blanchet medal, given to an artist for the relevance and persistence of his work. If institutions and professionals in the entertainment industry have been slow to recognize a value cultural songs to Plume, the public did not ask him to make meaningful benchmarks. With the publication of his first albums in the mid-seventies years, many of his songs have become standards again ad infinitum in the majority of pubs, bars and festivals across Quebec and beyond. So few artists have carved interpretations is that the directory is a large part of its effectiveness in the direct appeal of the audience. However, it is the collection of "Bobépine" noted by Eric Lapointe , "The peeps Louis" by Manon From Inverness and many eye from other young artists such as winks the Colocs in their song "The Crossing" . The songwriter engages himself with rare collaborations including with Dan Bigras , for whom he wrote "When the bums" and "The King Kakail" and Renée Claude customize it helps her rendition of "The Round swearing "by Georges Brassens. Over time, however, he comes to give less space to this aspect of its creation and more to writing (he published a third novel, Striboule in 1995) but also to painting and drawing, two disciplines he practiced for almost as long as the song. Absent from the scene for several months, he finds his former partner Stephen 'Brown Sugar' Faulkner for a unique evening at Francofolies de Montreal, August 5, 1995. It was only in 1996 that he decided to do so, introducing a new tour with the band The Perfect bastards. The great Saloplumerie presents as Senor El Pluma y Los Perfectos Cabrones.
