Origin: St. John's, Newfoundland, 🇨🇦
Biography:

Since it’s inception in the summer of 1995 in St. John’s, NF, Gearbox have been steadily raising their profile as a solid, and now veteran group on the east coast’s rock music scene. The band’s sound has been described as “loudly unique, drenched in rock solid riffs and hooks you couldn’t forget if you tried”.

In the summer of 1997, Gearbox released their self-titled debut album to some critical acclaim across the country and the album charted on numerous campus radio stations as well as some pro radio stations. It was also nominated for five MIANL awards in 1998. Also that year, Gearbox performed numerous high profile concerts, toured Atlantic Canada, and began work on a second compact disc. In November 1999 “Songs for the masses” was released. The multiple award-winning album also heralded critical acclaim and has gone on to become a Newfoundland indie rock classic. In late September 2002, Gearbox released their long awaited follow up to “Songs for the masses”, a collection of acoustic songs entitled “Stylish Mess”. A mixture of new songs and reworked older material, “Stylish Mess” displays a huge development in maturity and songwriting ability and also features guest appearances by Newfoundland musicians such as Mike Hanrahan (The Irish Descendants), Dave and Geoff Panting (formerly of Rawlin’s Cross) and Sean McCann of Great Big Sea. The album has already spawned two top ten hits on Newfoundland radio stations, with the title track hitting number one. Gearbox have also just completed a highly successful tour of Atlantic Canada, Québec and Ontario, with two ecma showcases and a cross country tour on the rise for early 2003.
