Arlene Frances Duncan is a Canadian singer and actress whose career spans recording, musical theatre, television, and voice work.

Born and raised in Oakville, Ontario, Duncan comes from a family with deep Canadian roots and longstanding community ties. She is the half-sister of Olympic sprint champion Donovan Bailey. Her early interests in music and performance led her to formal training in musical theatre at Sheridan College.

Her first national exposure came in the late 1970s when she won du Maurier’s Search for Stars, earning the opportunity to represent Canada at the Pacific Song Contest. During this period, Duncan began recording, releasing a limited body of soul- and dance-oriented material rather than pursuing a full album career. Early singles included “I Wanna Groove,” followed by club-oriented recordings released under the alias Kairene, including the dance single “I Need a Man.”

Duncan’s recorded output also includes the 1988 Canadian 7-inch single “Knowing You,” issued on Auto Records. The release was produced by Carl Harvey, with Jim Dunlop credited as executive producer, and features a vocal version backed with an instrumental flip featuring saxophonist Demo Cates.

Alongside her recording work, Duncan established a substantial career in musical theatre, appearing in numerous stage productions. Her work includes a notable role in Caroline, or Change, among other major theatrical appearances.

On television, Duncan is best known for her role as Fatima Dinssa on CBC’s Little Mosque on the Prairie. She later appeared as Velma Diggs on the legal drama Diggstown. Her screen work also includes voice acting, notably as Officer Rabbit on the animated series Franklin.
