Biography:

Angèle Arsenault (1943-2014) was born on October 1, 1943 in Abram-Village, in the Evangeline Region, in western Prince Edward Island, Canada, the eighth of fourteen children. His parents are Acadians.

She attended the Université de Moncton in New Brunswick, where she obtained a Bachelor of Arts in 1965. She then attended Laval University in Quebec City, where she earned a master's degree in literature in 1968.

In 1963 in Moncton, she performed traditional Acadian songs she had collected, and also played piano and guitar. After arriving in Quebec in 1966, she performed in song clubs, on the radio and on television. She also toured across the country.2 Between 1973 and 1974, she began composing her own songs, in both French and English, such as Évangeline, Acadian Queen, Le Monde de par chez-nous, La Cuisine and L'Homme et la femme. She hosted True North with Roy Payne from 1973 to 1975 on TVOntario. She also hosted the educational program Avec Angèle, which earned her a Gold Hugo Award at the Chicago International Film Festival in 19742. She is a singer and hostess at several folk festivals, including the Mariposa Festival in Orillia, Ontario, as well as the Milwaukee Festival in Wisconsin.

She participated in National Film Board films, including Le Temps de l'avant (1975) by Anne Claire Poirier. In 1974, she joined forces with producer Lise Aubut and singers Édith Butler and Jacqueline Lemay to found the Société de production et de programmation de spectacle (SPPS). She published the collection of poetry Première in 1975 in Montreal.

She performed at Place des Arts in 1977 and reached the top of the charts with her humorous songs Moi j'mange and Je veux toute la vivre ma vie. Both songs were included on the LP Libre in 1978. It was the best-selling album in Canada - more than 300,000 copies sold in the English and French markets - earning it a Félix Award in 1992.

Angèle Arsenault represented Canada in 1980 at the Spa Festival in Belgium. Upon her return, she hosted the show Angèle on Radio-Canada Acadie and toured Canada.

She is known for her hits De fois en temps moi j'ai les bleus, Moi j'mange, Je veux toute toute la vivre ma vie, C'est juste lundi Angèle and Y'a une étoile pour vous.
