Curtis Cary

Curtis "Gino" Cary was born and raised in a seaport town and still has a strong affinity for his hometown and for the sea. The following message from "Sailor Of The Road" gives a clear insight into the one who wrote the song and delivers it with the feeling born of his experience:

"When I was a little boy the sailors would come around.
They'd tell me their stories of the things they did in each town.
Right then and there I said, 'No! No!' a sailor I could never be,
For I could never leave my friends and family
But later on, deep inside,
I found myself doing the very same thing,
So rather than be a cad, 'cause I'm a man,
Riding the waves of the highways."

His introduction to music took place on the street corners of Norfolk, Virginia where he listened, snapped his fingers and imitated such professionals as Little Richard and Curtis Mayfield. It was here, Curtis says, where he gained his great love and appreciation of music.

It was only a matter of time before he was performing on stage in Norfolk with a variety of vocal groups. Achieving moderate success with recordings of their own, the group also sang back-up vocals with such well-known artists as Gary U.S. Bonds and Jimmy Soul, whom they accompanied on the nationally released hit "If You Wanna Be Happy For the Rest of Your Life."

As their horizons grew wider, the Anglos left Virginia and rode the waves of the industry toward fame and fortune in North America. Curtis finally arrived in Toronto, Canada, where he attracted the likes of Marvin Curtis Mayfield and "Big" Sam Cooke's step-brother and started the group, Curtis Mayfield and the Anglos. By the early sixties they were performing with or opening shows for a number of well-known Canadian performers.

A pop singer, musician and composer of his own material for jazz, blues, or pop, his debut solo release, "Girl Of My Dreams" offers a unique blend of styles - pop, blues, and rock. Here, Curtis displays his flair as a complete singer and producer. He clearly shows the polished accomplishment and style of a seasoned pro. Each song on the album was personally selected and produced by Curtis himself.

The ambitious Cary, even while still a speedy racing age ahead of his next release, plans to continue to offer something new and unusual to the pop world, if you will.
