Origin: Québec City, Québec
Biography:

Born in Quebec City, the singer-songwriter took part in last year's Festival International de la Chanson de Granby, where she won the SOCAN Best Song Award for her first original song, Igloo, which was inspired by her neighbourhood Limoilou. You can stream and download this song and a second one, La laideur, on her bandcamp. Both songs were recorded in studio with Philippe Brault, Rick Haworth, José Major, Audrey-Michèle Simard and Guido Del Fabbro.

Born in Quebec City in 1992, Safia Nolin showed an interest for music at a very young age: at two, she improvised unplugged concerts with her small plastic guitar around her building’s pool to her neighbours’ delight.

Sensitive, Safia developed an environmental and humanist awareness during her teen years. She got involved in different organizations fighting against social injustice and aiming at improving conditions for women, children, animals and the planet. During this period, her passion for music allowed her to escape the bullying she suffered in school. A compulsive reader, she gradually improved her songwriting skills.

At 17, wanting to achieve her dream of becoming a musician, Safia started learning how to play guitar on her own with a used one offered by her big brother. Inspired by her surroundings, society and human nature, she writes lyrics that reflect her personal experience and real life. Authentic and inspiring, her words touch us and carry us into her universe. Her influences range from folk rock to indie rock.

In 2012, she concocted her first original song, Igloo, inspired by her neighbourhood, Limoilou, for which Safia won the SOCAN Best Song Award during her participation at the 44th edition of the Festival International de la Chanson de Granby. She also presented two more songs, La laideur and Le cadeau. Following her stay in Granby, Safia had the opportunity to record these tracks in studio with Philippe Brault, Rick Haworth, José Major, Audrey-Michèle Simard and Guido Del Fabbro. To be continued..!
