Origin: Antigonish, Nova Scotia
Paying homage to Gypsy Jazz legend Django Reinhardt are Antigonish's Mishra's Dream. From soaring gypsy ballads to hot jazz standards, the versatility and energy of this acoustic quintet keeps audiences mesmerized and their dancing shoes hot on the floor. With two guitars, a violin, a stand-up bass and an accordion, Mishra's Dream brings to life the style of French jazz made famous by guitarist Django Reinhardt and violinist Stephane Grappelli, while including other gypsy standards from various backgrounds. Mishra's Dream boasts a following both young and old, and are in high demand for many different functions and events, from wedding receptions to cafes, campfire jams to corporate events.
Although all members of the band reside in Antigonish NS, they all come from different parts of Canada, with various musical backgrounds. Originally formed in 2003 with only the intent of playing music and having fun, the band's busking adventures and random house parties passed knowledge of them around, quickly establishing a fan-base who were instrumental in spreading the word of their music. Mishra's Dream are excited and proud to annouce the release of their self-titled debut album, available at the Tall and Small Café and the Justamere café in Antigonish and a cross-Canada tour being planned for the summer of 2009.
