Biography:

Canadian singer, songwriter and guitarist born 1945 in Ancaster, Ontario. Active in music from late 1960s to 1980s then entered academia. Started playing guitar at age 12, started music industry career writing satirical songs on current topics for Canadian TV news programme W5 in the late 1960s. Won the 1968 Lloyd E. Moffat Memorial Award for Best Originality and Creativity for his single PM Pierre. Sent his demo tape to John Hammond which led to Columbia Records of Canada, Ltd. signing him in 1970. Originally a folk/folk rock artist, he moved into country and western by the 1980s. Currently a professor of Anthropology with Carleton University's School of Indigenous and Canadian Studies.
