Origin: Chatham, Ontario
Unknown funk double-sider. This is 100% heavy funk from north of the border. Hand's down, one of the top Canadian funk titles ever. "Saturday's Wild" is a scorcher and will rip apart any dance floor while "Whole Lotta Your Love" is a haunting mellow groove that sounds like a secular out-take from the mellow material on Trevor Dandy's Don't Cry Little Tree. Lee Hurst was the only black artist that Merv Buchanan of Trend Records (Bent Wind) signed. "Lee was a brilliant songwriter and singer, but was hard on the musicians who worked for him. A popular saying at the time was "with Lee Hurst, the band is quicker than the eye"." This is the promo A&M white label. It was also released on the regular, brown A&M label.
Although Lee was from Ontario, he was living in Vancouver when the single was recorded in Merv's tiny Music Media studio, on King George Highway, in Surrey. "This was quite a job because we cut the tracks live and there were 9 or 10 players on the session, including Lee. The only overdub was the female backup singers."
Produced by Merv Buchanan.
